Just Because

Fresh out of the bath. Ethan doesn't mind getting bathed, but he doesn't get excited, once he can sit on his own it should be more fun.

Ethan loves to go in his jumeperoo, he has figured out how to make the music play but hasn't quite figured out the whole jumping thing.
The other day we introduced Kaitlyn to play-dough. She wasn't quite sure what to do with it and seemed to be more interested in the containers they came in and all the accessories.

Kaitlyn loves hats, here she is modeling a few of them. She even tries to wear Ethans and some of her doll hats, they don't fit so well and she gets a little frustrated.
Here's Ethan checking out the high chair. Kaitlyn didn't seem to like him in it and got a little upset, pointing and chattering something to him in not her most pleasant voice. We figured it meant she wanted him out and once we took him out she was happy. She will have to get used to it soon though because she'll be moving to her big girl booster soon.

Trip to the Museum.

On January 22nd we took the kids to the museum. Kaitlyn liked the animals and especially the birds, the only thing she was a little unsure of was some of the talking displays.
Our little smiley guy, Ethan is always so happy!! He wakes up and talks to himself till we get to him, even if it's half an hour,,,he never cries. When we do go into get him we are greeted by huge smiles. He is awesome!
Daddy feeding Ethan a bottle, something we don't do very often. He seems to take it though and that's a huge step considering what we went through with Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn playing in Ethans chair, she just does it to be cute, I'm sure!!!Mommy and Ethan at the museum. I don't know if he liked it, but he didn't cry so we'll say he did.

Mmmmm, solids!

January 10th was a big day for Ethan. He had rice cereal for the first time,,,and loved it!!! He ate between two and four tablespoons, yummmy!!
Here's Kaitlyn watching 'The Big Comfy Couch', her favourite show. When it comes on she drops everything and watches. She sings along, waves and dances, it's cute!

On the 15th Ethan rolled over. He hasn't figured out how to get his arm out from under his body yet though. When it starts to turn purple we roll him back over and do it all over again.
Kaitlyn has decided to start potty training, so here she sits reading mommy's book. She is at that stage where she imitates everything we do. It's cute and funny, though at the same time a little scary, And a huge waste of toilet paper!

Our Hospital Stay

On Friday, January 6th we took Kaitlyn to the hospital. We got in to see a doctor around midnight and they hooked her up to an IV right away, well after five tries they finally got the needle in. Turns out she was more dehydrated than we thought and her veins either popped or they couldn't find them. Dave and I had to hold her down as they tried to get it in. Kaitlyn screamed and struggled, it was so hard emotionally!!
After running some test they decided to book Kaitlyn into pediatrics. We ended up in isolation because the doctors weren't sure why she was throwing up. Through the tests we found out that she had a bladder and urinary track infection, probably from the diarrhea that accompanied the flu. Once they started treating the infection she stopped throwing up and started to get better.
Spending four days in isolation was hard. It was a small room and Kaitlyn would stand at the hall window waving at the nurses as thy went by, she wanted to get out so bad. Dave brought toys from home and the nurses brought toys and movies to help pass the time. Kaitlyn even played Super Mario on Dave's Nintendo DS, and she actually got places in the game!
It was surprising how fast Kaitlyn got used to the IV, stepping over the cord and only using her left hand, she seemed to accept it without question. Ethan stayed in the hospital with us the whole time. He was amazing, just hanging out, charming the nurses and providing some form of entertainment for Kaitlyn.
I found the sleeping accommodations to be the hardest. I had to sleep in a chair that converted to a cot, and it was hard, I was so stiff, and, to make matters worse, across the hall from our room was the room where they took kids to put in their IV's, so when I finally got to sleep I was awoken by screaming kids. Dave spent two nights sleeping upright in a chair, so he was totally drained. The last two nights he slept at home since he had to work. Kaitlyn was finally discharged on January 9Th and put on oral meds, I was so happy to be going home! When we got home Kaitlyn just stood there looking around smiling, she was happy too!!! Now ten days later she is back to her normal chipper self and has a bigger appetite than ever, its great!

Happy New Year

We started off our new year not feeling so well. New years eve Kaitlyn woke up with the flu, that afternoon Dave started to get sick. Kaitlyn and daddy just laid around the whole day. The next day everyone seemed better so we went out to Katie's for dinner. Kaitlyn didn't eat much and didn't seem like herself, she then got sick again later that evening. Well that evening was my turn to be sick, not fun at all but I was glad to get it over with!! Ethan was the only one not to get sick and I'm glad, that would have been awful! The rest of the week Kaitlyn kept getting sick off and on and just never seemed to return to her normal self. She helped take down the tree and pack up all the decorations but never got really excited about anything, it was quite strange. By friday she seemed to be getting dehydrated and was still getting sick so we took her to emergency. I'll tell you all about that on the next post.

Christmas Day

After opening gifts with the kids at home we went over to my parents for brunch. Then we came home and got ready for Christmas dinner.
We had a lot of paper to clean up and a turkey to cook. The turkey took longer than we thought it would, sometimes they are unpredictable! However we had lots of appitizers, so it all worked out.

After dinner everyone sat around playing Apples to Apples and Pit, it was a very loud but fun time! Even Kaitlyn tried to play.

All in all it was a good and fun Christmas!

Christmas Morning

Christmas morning. Finally!!!! Kaitlyn can open presents and I don't have to rewrap!!! After opening four or five presents she just wanted to play with them and didn't care about the rest. We ended up helping her open them. Once she had the stroller and dolly that was it, she played with it the rest of the morning, taking turns with her dolly getting pushed around.

When we were finished opening gifts the living room was a HUGE mess!!

Ethan got some chew toys and seemed pretty happy, he sure does like to put things in his mouth!

Oh The Anticipation

The weeks leading up to Christmas were very exciting for Kaitlyn. She opened a gift or two every day and I had to rewrap everyday, she couldn't understand why she couldn't play with everything right now!

Kaitlyn just loved the lights on the house and would stand at the window staring out at them. She is in this picture standing in the yard--you can see the reflectors on her boots--and that's about it.

Decorate the tree day

On the second weekend in December we drove to Calgary for decorate the tree day at the Anderson house.
Kaitlyn had a great time getting pulled around by Alex in her new wagon while Ethan took turns sleeping on people.
After the tree was decorated Dave carried on family tradition by adding the pointsetta that he made when he was a kid to the top of the tree.
We then spent the rest of the day visiting, eating turkey and lazing around, it was great!

Getting Ready for Chirstmas

At the end of November it snowed and it started to feel like Christmas. Kaitlyn helped Dave decorate the outside of the house with reindeer, candy canes, candles and lights, it looked great!
On December first we invited the family over and decorated the Christmas tree. Kaitlyn was very helpful, trying to hang ornaments, then pulling them down to play with them. Both Kaitlyn and Ethan loved the lights and just sat there looking at them. Kaitlyn especially liked the Star Wars ornaments because they made sounds, she woud wake up every morning and want us to push the buttons to make them work.
